Wonderful Mix in Kuala Lumpur

How many times have I mentioned how mix is KL?…Probably too many times..

Over the weekend I went to a BBQ at a friend’s place. Didn’t know anyone, except for my friend of course! There were like 25 people, and as I was there I started talking and talking with many of them.

The first questions are always as follow: “where are you from, how long have you been in KL?” .. “Oh, that’s great!. Do you like KL?”… For which I have not heard anyone say “No”. Full of excitement everybody says “YES!”. And when one of the person there said that he has to move out of KL, his eyes were almost full of tears!

When you know you are staying longer, and you heard and see this kind of reactions (happy living in KL, sad of leaving KL), you can only be happy and excited of staying longer in this great city. And you are even happier to realize all the people from around the world you have been lucky enough to meet– that night were people from more than 7 countries: New Zealand, Germany, Mexico, Venezuela, Uzbekistan, Ireland, UK and probably from many others but I didn’t have the chance to talk to them.

I have mentioned before about the Malays, Chinese, Indian and European mix and cultural influences all over Malaysia. However, I have never really thought about the mix of expats there is from ALL (literally speaking) over the world—I think it is truly amazing and interesting!

Within all this mix of cultures, we all have something in common: we are ALL far from home… and because of that, we are pushed to meet more and more people, and to learn from each other… It’s a wondeful mix in Kuala Lumpur!

If you want to know more about what it means to be an Expat (from my own point of view), check out my Post What does it mean to be an Expat?
